What You Wish They Taught: Tools

Everyone struggles with growing up, but some everyday tasks are harder than others.
Elle Richardson
Everyone struggles with growing up, but some everyday tasks are harder than others.

When you move out, you’re going to be responsible for your own belongings and living space. Inevitably, you’re going to have objects break. Because of this, it is important to have a basic understanding of tools and have some essentials in a toolbox close hand. The most basic of essentials include:

  • Screwdriver: You will want at least a flat-head and a Phillips head, the more variations of size mean the more likely you are to fit the screw
  • Hammer: You will most likely want a metallic headed hammer, but a rubber mallet can also come in handy for more fragile projects
  • Electric drill: This will help you in drilling holes and will save you time with screwing and unscrewing
  • Pliers: These come in handy when gripping and tightening bolts
  • Adjustable spanner: This is important when you need to tighten a bolt
  • Level: This will be helpful when hanging shelves or pictures
  • Paint touch-up pen: Purchasing a paint pen the same color as your walls can help lessen the appearance of scuff marks
  • Extra nails, screws, nuts, bolts, washers, etc.: These are helpful in case you lose something
