After a 5-week hiatus, Formula One returned to our home Grand Prix– Miami, Florida. Mercedes-AMG Petronas dominated the first 3 races, so fans were eager to see if that trend would continue into round 4.
Sprint Race
McLaren driver Lando Norris secured pole position for the sprint race, while Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli qualified second. Lando used pole to his advantage, securing the sprint race win and becoming the first non-Mercedes winner of any format in the 2026 season. He was followed by his teammate Oscar Piastri and then Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc.

Grand Prix Race
Kimi Antonelli once again secured pole position for his third consecutive Grand Prix. This race had a staggering start, with Max Verstappen doing a 360-spin, yet he somehow regained control and continued the race while avoiding collision with the other drivers. This event did push him back to P10, however. Kimi Antonelli also had a poor start, going wide and then off course.
With Charles Leclerc’s heavily upgraded SF-25, changes to the floor and suspension allowed him to have a rapid start, from which he avoided Antonelli and Verstappen to take the lead.
Throughout
Leclerc and Antonelli repeatedly switch back and forth between P1 and P2 for the early part of the race, as the new energy deployment allows for many more overtaking opportunities.
At lap 6, Isack Hadjar clipped the apex wall, causing him to crash into the barrier. With much frustration, he was out of the race.

Liam Lawson made contact with Pierre Gasly. Gasly’s car then flipped over, but thankfully, he was okay. This collision forced both of them from the race.
Following these incidents, a safety car was deployed. Verstappen was one of two drivers to pit under the safety car. Red Bull hoped that the forecasted rain would not hold true so that they would not have wasted a pit stop just to soon after pit again and put on wets.
At lap 13, Norris joined Antonelli and Leclerc in the fight for P1, which continued throughout the race. After the three pitted, Verstappen got the lead, but with fresher tires, he was passed on lap 29.
End
Piastri and Leclerc fought for 3rd, while Russell passed Verstappen for 5th on the last lap.
Leclerc then shockingly clipped the wall and spun, earning damage that allowed Russell to pass for 4th and Verstappen to pass to 5th. Following Leclerc’s impressive start, the 6th place finish was a disappointment for him and many fans, worsened by a post-race 20-second penalty that pushed him down to 8th.
Kimi Antonelli won the Miami Grand Prix, making him the first driver to win his first three F1 races from pole. The next race is the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal. With a difficult track layout, the Canadian GP is always unpredictable, even earning the title of the longest race ever back in 2011.
