Jesus Nunez, a sophomore at Marco Island Academy, is a hard-working artist. His passion and devotion for drawing have always been under the surface, but really started shining in 5th grade. What kept him going was the positive affirmation and encouragement that helped him recognize his talent and pushed him to improve as an artist. Since then, art has become a passion and a form of relaxation.
Inspired by the artist Josh Hernandez, Jesus began experimenting with charcoal, which quickly became his favorite medium. Jesus prefers drawing with realism and enjoys the challenge of drawing fine lines and details. He often listens to music and uses a reference photo while working, which keeps him focused and helps him draw more precisely.
Like most artists, Jesus sometimes experiences burnout. He might feel inspired at first, but could quickly lose motivation if he can’t decide what he wants to draw. Other times, he becomes so focused that he draws for hours and loses track of time. Most times, if not always, ending up with a sore neck from leaning over so much. Even with these challenges, art remains an outlet for him in his free time.
Jesus does not usually draw with a specific theme in mind. Instead, he enjoys drawing animals and focuses on improving his realism and technique. His hard work has earned him some recognition. In seventh and eighth grade, he placed third and second at the Marco Island Center for the Arts competition. Competing against around 30 or more kids his age.
Jesus hopes to continue his art career through his adult life by pursuing a career in Tattooing. He wants people to see his skill and precision. Being a tattoo artist is the perfect career for Jesus because it combines creativity, detail, and technical skill. For Jesus Nunez, art is not about the pressure of perfection; it is about focus, relaxation, and most importantly, personal growth.
