Delaney Rose Mann graduated early from Marco Island Academy in 2023, where she was known for her bright personality, hardworking attitude, and commitment to the school’s cheer team.
One of her former teachers, Mr. Scalia, described her as “a hard-working student in his class,” a statement that captures Delaney’s determination and drive during her time at MIA.
Right after high school, Delaney decided not to go straight to college and began working at a boutique called Butterfly Beach. Delaney started during December of her junior year and continued there after she officially graduated. In August, she decided to follow her passion and enroll in cosmetology school. Since then, her life has been a balance of school and work. She goes to cosmetology school on Monday and Tuesday, and she works Wednesday through Sunday. This experience has been very rewarding for her, but also immensely demanding, teaching her how to manage her time while pursuing both work and education.
Delany admits that where she is now isn’t exactly what she pictured for herself while she was in high school. She was still exploring her interests, and she was unsure what path to take. “I wanted to go to culinary school, become a psychologist, literally everything!” She never felt tied to choosing one path, and that flexibility has given her the freedom to discover different passions. Even today, Delaney keeps her mind open about the future. “I was all over the place with what I wanted to do” showing her flexible and adventurous outlook on life. While she didn’t originally picture herself in the beauty industry, she discovered something that allows her to express how creative she is and help people feel more confident in themselves.
Reflecting on her time at Marco Island Academy, Delaney describes it as a “positive impact” on her life. She remembers it as a beautiful school filled with amazing teachers and staff. The support she received helped her grow into the person she is today. While Delaney did not attend college, she is far from done with her education. She plans to soon continue her schooling, but with a focus that aligns with her current interest in cosmetology. As she explains, “I’m going to be doing treatments on hair and the body, and I’m really interested in it.” She’s currently researching where she needs to go next to gain the certifications and training required for that part of the beauty and wellness industry. Her passion for learning demonstrates that not everyone needs to pursue the same educational path; sometimes, success looks like creating your own path.
Delaney’s life outside is an inspiring reminder that success isn’t always a straight line. Through hard work, being open-minded, and gratitude, she has built a life that reflects who she truly is. Whether she’s working at the boutique, perfecting her skills in cosmetology school, or planning her next step in the beauty and wellness industry, Delaney continues to follow her passions and stay true to herself.
