With beach volleyball season officially starting, the team is ready for an exciting season full of competition. This season, they have a roster of 12, three seniors, four juniors, three sophomores, two freshman, and every single one of them is strong and ready to compete. With practices underway, the team is focused and ready for what is ahead of them.
A big part of the leadership on the team is the return of the three seniors. They help guide the underclassmen and set the tone during practices and matches. Their leadership is very important to the team as everyone works together to represent the school while playing the game they love.
Their regular season consists of five matches, not including any postseason play they may qualify for. The Lady Rays will be traveling as far as Miami to play and compete. Each match will be an opportunity for the Lady Rays to grow, compete, and have fun. With a shorter season, no games will be taken for granted.
In beach volleyball, games are won by three out of the five pairs winning their matches. Some schools might not have enough to field five different pairs, so they play with as many pairs as they can.
The pairs must work together while adjusting to the different outdoor conditions, like the wind. The wind plays a role in how much velocity is put on the ball. Pairs are carefully selected based on different players’ skill sets. Everyone has different strong suits, and people work better with different people.
As the season goes on, an exciting part is watching this team develop. As they keep practicing and playing in matches, their bond is only going to grow stronger and get better. With support from each other, determination, and hard work, this season is going to be a season to remember.
