This Wednesday, February 4th, Marco Island Academy’s Science National Honors Society (SNHS) is hosting a bingo night for all ages in order to raise money for an upcoming physics field trip.
Every year, the Science National Honors Society goes on a clubwide trip to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and provides students with a thrilling experience as they ride roller coasters at lightning-fast speeds. However, in addition to joy, this experience also serves an educational purpose. Students who participate in the field trip undergo a workshop that discusses the various factors – electricity, acceleration, velocity, and engineering – that make the magic happen at Disney’s roller coasters.
To make the trip possible, SNHS aims to raise a total of eight thousand dollars in order to fund the trip. According to the club administrator, Mr. Swope, “The eight thousand is split between transportation and student tickets; transportation alone costs us around $4000.” With today’s bingo night, SNHS hopes to raise some or potentially all the money required for this year’s trip.
When club president, Logan Sullivan Terreri, was asked about the event, he stated, “I think it will be a great success. We’ve had great collaboration from members in the club and from members in the community.”
The event will take place from 6 pm to 8 pm today. Entry costs $25, which includes all evening access, and additional bingo cards are available for $25. Everyone is encouraged to bring friends and family of all ages.
As for food and prizes, players have the option to purchase food from the concession stand at the Manta Ray Cafe, and all winners will receive a gift card of their choice from a selection of donated options.
To help reduce the out-of-pocket costs for attending students, you can donate directly to MIA’s Science National Honors Society, or visit Marco Island Academy from 6 to 8 pm today
