Yesterday, the girls soccer team had a 4-0 dominant win against Donahue Academy. They showed a blend of confidence, discipline, and love for the game from the first whistle to the last. Players say this victory was built on technical execution and their determination to win.
According to sophomore, Grace Elliot, the early goal helped their game for the rest of the night. “I think the key to our win would be the first goal to start everyone off with confidence to finish out strong,” she explained. That first goal helped settle any nerves and set them up for success for the rest of the match.
Eliot emphasized how effective the team was along the right side of the field. “The strongest part of the game was the movement up the right side to get the ball in the right position to shoot or set up for a goal,” Grace said. Once the game started, she felt the team began playing with purpose.
Sophomore Jade Messenger also highlighted the importance of the team’s mindset. “Communication and teamwork were huge,” she said. “Everyone was working together to want and earn that win.”
Both players also indicated how important the team staying disciplined was to their success. Mesenger noted, “Staying compact and in line with each other was big for us. Focus and finish, keep going and put your foot on the gas pedal.”
The back line was another part of the team’s success. They “did well with clearing the ball and moving it quickly up the field,” said Eliot.
A major highlight of the night was the return of senior captain, Gracie Johnson. “Gracie was the player who really stepped up. She did a great job moving the ball to the front line by giving through balls,” said Eliot.
Looking ahead, these talented players feel that this win is helping them gain momentum for future matches. With chemistry and confidence rising, the girls are heading into the rest of the season strong, and ready for what is ahead.
