The long-anticipated spring musical, A Year with Frog and Toad opens tonight at Marco Island Academy on the Rhine Stage.
A Year with Frog and Toad is a Tony Award-nominated musical by brothers Robert and Willie Reale based on the children’s stories by Arnold Lobel. The show follows the close friendship of Frog, a cheery and adventure-loving optimist, and Toad, a self-conscious and worrying pessimist, through the seasons from one spring to the next.
The story unfolds in a series of vignettes reminiscent of the short-stories featured in Lobel’s books. Students can expect to see their childhood memories brought to life on the Rhine Stage before their eyes in a night full of whimsical antics, a jazzy score, and an out-of-this-world cast.
“The community can expect the same high standards production they’ve grown to expect,” says MIA’s Performing Arts Instructor, Christopher Dayett. “With each show, I tend to focus on learning a new skill or polishing a specific skill. Last year was a combo of me as a writer, lighting designer, and puppet designer. This year, I’m focusing on growing my set designing and scenic artistry skills.”
This commitment to quality and excellence makes itself clear in all elements of Frog and Toad this year, pushing the limits and boundaries of MIA Theatre further and further each production. Audience members can expect to be left in awe by the creativity and attention to detail featured in this year’s musical.
