Mr. Shane Totten is a dedicated art teacher, as well as a proud father and husband, with a deep passion for music. With this passion, he started a band called The No Worries Band.
This band’s name actually originated from an earlier group Mr. Totten formed with his sons, Elliot and Julian, along with Carson and Chandler Zuck. As the boys graduated and moved on to different opportunities, Mr. Totten carried the spirit of that original group forward by transforming the name into a band that could continue playing and sharing music for years to come.
The band has three main members: Bob Brown plays the bass guitar, Paul Burke plays lead guitar, and Mr. Totten plays acoustic guitar. All three members also contribute vocals to the band. These gentlemen started playing together at St. Mark’s Church for the Contemporary service on Sunday morning. Mr. Totten says, “At church, we’re called the No Exceptions Band because God Loves Everyone — No Exceptions. We all enjoyed playing together so much that we decided to play out and about as the No Worries Band.” Collectively, they have been playing as a band for around 4.5 years.
Shane and the band perform at a variety of venues around the island. Their main locations include The Italian Deli and Market, The Yacht Club, Margaritas, and The Burrow. Crowd favorites across Marco Island. They typically perform on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. To prepare for these shows, the band rehearses on Monday nights, where they practice new songs and get ready for upcoming performances.
Though the No Worries Band has played all over Marco Island, they do have their favorite spots, songs, and memories. When asked about their favorite places to perform, Shane said, “Wow — there are so many fun places to play. We especially enjoy the places where people like to dance!” The band loves performing for energetic crowds and creating a fun, laid-back atmosphere.
Shane also shared that “We play a lot of crowd pleasers and dance songs with an island vibe like Jimmy Buffett, Bob Marley, and Kenny Chesney.” While they enjoy covering popular songs, their favorite song to perform live is an original the band wrote called “Who’s Got It Better Than Us?” The song was inspired by relaxing days spent fishing off Cape Romano with friends, capturing the carefree island lifestyle that the band loves.
The No Worries Band has made unforgettable memories performing for the Marco Island community. From playing for large crowds at the Tommie Barfield Fall Festival to rocking a “Where the Wild Things Are” themed event in Chokoloskee, their performances are always full of fun and energy.
With experienced musicians like their bass player, Bob Brown, the band continues to bring excitement and great music wherever they play.
Mr. Totten has played a vital role in MIA’s music and art history. He continues to inspire his students, sharing the joy that music brings to his life and can bring to theirs. His parting words: “Always be humble and kind.”
