Gregory Okonm, an American rapper, record producer, filmmaker, actor, and fashion designer, is better known by his stage name, Tyler, the Creator. All of Tyler’s albums tell a story where he plays a character (his alter egos) pertaining to his music. Tyler elaborated on his prior close-to-home trauma, his father’s absence, feelings of suicide, and his inability to fit in using a variety of imaginary characters in his early discography. Tyler pushes to make his music stand out to be heard, not only listened to.
Goblin excludes all of the norms of a popular rap album, such as guns, women, or money, setting it apart from typical rap albums. This album is formed around the feelings of suicide, abandonment issues, and also dealing with internal rage. The album consists of 15 songs all related to Tyler speaking with the fictional therapist, linking to the album ‘Goblin’ being their second session and ‘Wolf’ being their third session. The songs in this album have no mentions of happy emotions and instead are bleak and darkly written. These feelings are inspired by his upsetting upbringing that persisted in his father leaving him and his feelings of being violent and depressed. This particular album of Tyler’s is definitely one of the most powerful, as he is all about expressing his anger with the world. He drafts all his feelings into songs for people to understand and listen to for his songs to be connected to on deeper levels.
Flower Boy, Tyler the Creator’s fourth studio album, was released in 2017. Some critics and fans view Flower Boy as Tyler’s “course correction,” despite the fact that his past work is regarded as extremely contentious and even led to his three-to five-year ban from the United Kingdom. This album was classified by fans as nostalgic and colorful-a very different vibe to his prior albums and giving off the effects of a different vibe to his music. The point of this album was to hit a different target audience.People were asking for a pop album, so he released one. The main themes of the album consist of loneliness, isolation, and the pursuit of self-acceptance. Tyler rejects materialistic belongings and dreams of “the woods with flowers, rainbows, and posies” in the opening tune, “Foreword.” Additionally, he expresses regret to the ladies he has previously misled or mistreated. Flower Boy offers listeners an intimate glimpse into the artist’s experiences with friendship, loneliness, love, and sexuality and is the first genuine view of a more gentle Tyler.
IGOR circles right back to Tyler’s roots of using fictional characters to speak up about thoughts he had trouble sharing. Many people have experienced the general narrative of Tyler the Creator’s album, IGOR.You fall in love, and they return the favor, but they don’t fully commit. When the album Call Me If You Get Lost was released in 2021, many theories and debates circled the internet on the meaning of the album name and what it meant until in his Portland show, Tyler clarified that “Call Me If You Get Lost” doesn’t mean to call him when you don’t know what to do, but instead call”me” when you get lost in the world doing your business and finding yourself. In contrast with his previous albums, the original album focuses on him traveling, reflecting, and thinking back on his life and love. For some background, prior to talking about the deluxe edition, he chooses to boast about his priorities after realizing how much his life has changed as a result of his rap career and friends. Tyler repeatedly says, “If you don’t know my grandma’s name, then we ain’t really dogs,” throughout the song, emphasizing against pretending to know someone you don’t. Referring back to “What a Day,” the opening line discusses how he is different from other rappers in that he doesn’t purchase expensive materialistic goods. To put it briefly, he seems to be interacting with other rappers who believe they are on the same level with Tyler, but in reality, he is further ahead.
On Friday, October 28, Chromakopia is scheduled to arrive. Tyler only revealed the album’s title and release date a few days ago. Last week, he also shared a brief teaser video and a sample of a brand-new song called “St. Chroma.” On October 21st, the Monday before the expected arrival date, he released a single in the album, “Noid,” along with its music video.
