Boy’s Varsity Basketball Falls Short in 3 Consecutive Games; Looks to Rebound for PCAC

Ryan Sweeney, Staff Writer

The Marco Island Academy boys basketball team has had a rough stretch of games from 1/17 to 1/21 where they dropped 3 consecutives games to Oasis, Village School of Naples, and Imagine School at North Port. Village School was potentially the hardest loss for the Rays, not because of the score, but because they suffered the loss on senior night. This didn’t destroy the Rays hope, as they pounced on Mason Classical Academy on Monday the 23rd. They won by a score of 76-33. Led by senior Shamus Coyle who dropped 19 points and junior Grayson Jones who finished with 12.

The Rays needed this win, as they will head into back to back tournaments, the first being in Vero Beach, and the second being the PCAC. When asked about the upcoming games junior Grayson Jones said, “This win definitely put us in a great place heading into the final stretch, and increased our confidence in ourselves.” The PCAC will be hosted in Ave Maria, due to the Rays finishing 2nd in the conference.

They look for another PCAC championship win, to continue the tradition of winning every championship dating back to the 2019-2020 season. Shamus Coyle says “I feel confident in our chances to win, if everyone plays their game and we continue to overcome adversity as a team, we should walk away from the PCAC satisfied no matter the outcome.” The PCAC’s will begin in early February. We wish the best of luck to our Rays!
