Michelle Armas

Senior Spotlight: Michelle Armas

Michelle Armas came to Marco Island Academy her junior year from Saint Brendan High School in Miami, Florida. Michelle has cheered her whole two years at MIA. Her biggest takeaway from cheerleading at MIA is that some people want to cheer because they have the passion for it and others want to cheer for the uniform. Michelle values a cheer team of motivated girls. Michelle says her most memorable moment in cheer is waving to the crowd after her flips. She says “something about my wave is so specific and obnoxious I love it.”

Michelle embraces her father on the court.

Michelle is also on the MIA girls basketball team. In her free time she likes to read and watch Criminal Minds or the History Channel. Michelle used to be on a five-time state champion cheerleading team in Miami. Michelle enjoys ripsticking, driving and “anything that makes me feel like I’m going fast.” Michelle feels as though her school life plays into her home life but she keeps her home life apart from school. Michelle is a big contributor to the cheerleading team and is very passionate about cheerleading and school spirit. Her effort towards cheerleading is something that she takes great pride in.

Michelle first joined the basketball team when her friends, Cadence and Jocelyn Snover asked her to join the team and play basketball with them. Since joining the team, Michelle has learned discipline and valuable life lessons. Michelle says “sometimes you just gotta shut your mouth and say ‘yes coach’ and move on.” Michelle’s favorite thing about being on the team is the laughs she has shared with her best friends and her friendship with Astrid that she will ‘forever be grateful for’.

Michelle excels in History and English classes and has an academic interest in both subjects. Michelle says that she does not excel in any kind of math classes.

Michelle is very passionate about cheerleading and she wishes to ‘make the world a happier and safer place to call our home”. Michelle wants to attend a 4-year university and study criminology in the future.
