Swim: Season Recap

Lauren Faremouth, Contributing Writer

The Marco Island Academy swim team is very small but definitely mighty. This year, the swim team had 6 girls and 1 boy. Despite being small, the team never focused on winning swim meets against teams that held up to 60 swimmers. Instead, they focused on achieving our best times. Each swimmer dropped time throughout the season and began to love events that they thought they would never swim or be able to. When districts came around, every swimmer dropped time and 4 of the 7 swimmers qualified for regionals in both relays and individual events. Additionally, they ended up ranking fifth overall in the women’s division out of all the teams there.

Swimmers Susan Linn, Abigail Lewandowski, Jenna Jackson, and Lauren Faremouth all qualified for swim regionals. Susan Linn individually qualified in the 50 free. Jenna Jackson qualified for the 100 free. Abigail Lewandowski qualified in both the 50 free and the 100 breast. Lauren Faremouth qualified for the 100 fly and the 100 back. They all qualified for the 200 medley and freestyle relay as well. At regionals, the girls dropped 2 seconds on their medley relay and dropped another 3 seconds on their freestyle relay. Everyone else swam their best in their individual events and dropped time.
