Zach Bryan’s “American Heartbreak” Review

Piper Noyes, Staff Writer

American Heartbreak was released on May 2nd of last year, and includes 34 exceptional songs. Each entails different feelings of loss, heartbreak and forgiveness. This album is to speak on his journey through the past 5 years of his life as a 26-year old man in America. Since this album includes 34 extraordinary songs I’ll be reviewing the top ten Zach Bryan songs that are included in the American Heartbreak album.

Morning Time 3:46

Starting off strong, the guitar is the spotlight of this song. The soft but raspy voice of Zach Bryan gets some moments in this song. The beat of this song goes down your spine and pushes up the goosebumps that trail under your skin. There is profanity in this song which makes it 100 times better. Morning time is a metaphor of “lighting his life up” . Bryan belches in this song and it’s flooding with feelings of loving someone so much it hurts and how a woman can make life a little bit easier but a lot a bit harder since arguing and making up is the true meaning of this song. Very relatable. As for the meaning this song deserves a 10/10 and it will in fact get a 10/10. The ending line “ you in the morning time makes me glad i’m still alive”, like how can that get any sadder. Definitely add this to your playlist.

Something In The Orange 4:15

Yes, the most famous song ever in the country world is being reviewed. Something In The Orange is in fact a song to scream to, even though it’s a little slow paced the meaning behind it is impeccable. I have listened to this song specifically over 50 times. First off Zachs raspy voice just makes this song a masterpiece. If you listen to this song carefully you will get what he’s trying to say and that it’s about two people knowing they are meant to be together but it has to come to an end. I would listen to this song if it was my last day on this earth. Zach Bryan really wrote this and knew it was going to be a hit because who wouldn’t relate to this song, like everyone and their mom has that one person who keeps coming back. You already know I would give this an infinite score if I had to.

If She Wants a Cowboy 3:13

As soon as this song starts you are going to feel your foot going up and down to the beat without even noticing.  Personally I would love a cowboy in my life and I bet you do too. This song is just a vibe and it matches the vibe of laying out getting a fresh dark tan while drinking an ice cold sweet tea and the smell of suntan lotion. If you play this song with a non- country lover they are gonna secretly write this song’s name in their notes and then the next time you see them they’re going to have a Kentucky accent. Be careful because Zach Bryan knows exactly what he’s doing and the mission with this song is to get more people to get wifed up with a cowboy.

Sun to me 2:44

Okay I’m extremely biased with this review because I’m in love with Zach Bryan and this song is definitely one of my many favorites. The beat in general is just so good you can’t not like it. The only thing that sucks about this song is how short it is. It really gets me mad that such a good song can end so quickly. It’s like an action movie ending on a cliffhanger. Why would anyone do that? That’s exactly what he did when writing this song. “Sun to Me” is of course about how much he cares for this girl and he details how simple but also how beautiful she was when he first saw her. I know you’re on the edge of your seat while reading this because so am I.

From Austin 3:28

I hate this song. Not because it’s bad but it’s just too sad to listen to. The beat makes you want to scream in your car all the way home. From Austin is a song about loving someone that you’re essentially no good for. He would do anything for her, even “drown in the ocean so you would float” , like this is just not okay to listen to because you’ll end up going 100 mph in a school zone. Zach Bryan really knows how to get under your skin within 3 minutes and 28 seconds.

Heavy Eyes 3:11

Okay right off the bat this song is like a rodeo and I want to be swung around by a shredded cow boy on the dance floor. This is the type of song you want to jump up and try to do the cotton eye joe. Honestly when I listen to this song I don’t even hear the words. All I hear is the crazy dance-filled beat that makes me feel energized. This song spices up the album since all the songs included in the American Heartbreak album have a slow melody whereas “Heavy Eyes” is fast paced and you most definitely will not get bored or fall asleep when you listen to this fire song.

Cold Damn Vampires 4:53

When I first listened to this song I was in a WTH moment because first off what it the title of this song, it’s so odd.  Right when this song starts it’s just whistling which caught me off guard, I was not expecting that. As you keep listening you are going to change the WTH moment to “ damn this is fire”. I honestly have no clue what he means by cold damn vampires but without overthinking about the meaning this song will get even more catchy the more times you listen to it. The second time I listened to this song I shattered to whittle along and I know you probably will end up doing the same thing I did.

Whiskey Fever 3:33

Okay this song is another “get up and boogie” type of song.  As soon as you hear this song you’re going to instantly add this to your “yeehaw” playlist. Having a song with screaming country guys singing , the banjo, drums, and of course the old guitar. Whiskey Fever is a great song because of all the diverse instruments correlated to create this amazing melody, even though it’s kind of  a hillbilly song you’re going to love it because it’s hard not to like something that makes you whip out your cowboy boots and flannel.

Ninth Cloud 3:24

For my fellow rock stars, this song is for you if you want to brighten your music taste. Country is the new trend now and if you are physically not able to listen to it because it’s the same thing that talks about beer, my hometown, my wife, boating, fishing, well then listen to this song because it does in fact have the electric guitar. I know you’re probably wondering why a country song would have an electric guitar. Zach Bryan is just built differently and likes to make his songs unique. The Ninth Cloud is about the world destroying him but he still has plans, so he says that they’ll have to completely take him out. That is really deep for a country song right? I love this song because it is different but also a good song to just chill to and listen to the words.

She’s Alright 3:50

To end off this review, this final song is about loss which is what makes up the American Heartbreak album. This song honors his late mom, and finds him wishing she was around to see him navigate this rollercoaster of success and how far he has made it. This song is the definition of this album. Heartbreak is the worst feeling and loss is the worst type of heartbreak someone could go through. I would not refer anyone to this song because of how sad it is. As the song ends there is a voicemail from Zach Bryan’s mom and that’s what makes this song so personable. If you want to snuggle in your room with the lights dimmed and you feel like you want to let out a good cry I would recommend this song.  But if you’re looking for a song to drop it down low on the dance floor..keep looking.
