Senior Spotlight: Haylen Irvan

For senior year, Haylen Irvan was determined to branch out.  She decided that cheerleading was the perfect way to do so.  At first, she was very nervous but soon realized that this season was her calling when the coaches welcomed her with open arms and every single girl supported her.  Haylen is inspired by her teammates and truly believes they are her sisters.  She is amazed by how the team was able to come together and relate to each other despite different backgrounds and diverse personalities.  Irvan would like to thank her team for showing her what it means to be a cheerleader, a student, a friend, and a Ray.

Her favorite memory from this past season was when the cheerleaders were getting drenched at an away game yet continued to cheer.  She remembers turning to Julia Vergo and asking her if her mascara was running.  They both just laughed.

When you first meet Haylen, you would never expect that she has asteriaphobia, the fear of starfish. You also would be surprised to learn how many clubs she is a part of. Haylen is in Interact Club, FCA, and Thespians Society.  Also, she is the Literary Editor for the Yearbook, the Features Editor for the MIA Wave, and the President of Science National Honors Society.

Although uncertain about a particular career, Haylen plans to earn her bachelor’s degree in biology, then work towards earning her Florida Teaching License.  Irvan says, “I might be in a lab, I might be on a boat studying sharks, or I might be in a high school classroom doing what I love; teaching.”
