Victorious in Volleyball
October 9, 2021
Hailing victorious at the Senior Night game held on September 29th, our Lady Rays bested the Lely Trojans 3-1. Lely won the first set with a score of 25-18, which set our girls back. However, our Mighty Mantas stepped up and showed off their spectacular skills throughout the remainder of the night. Senior Camryn Rose played especially well, serving the fans kill after kill, totaling 25 kills in a single match.
In the second set, our girls brought “the heat” with a spectacular offensive set. Junior Virginia Lowe was consistently there to assist her teammates in setting them up for kills. As the Lady Trojans expected Lowe to once again set the ball for seniors Skye LaButte or Camryn Rose, she tipped it just over the net, catching the Lady Trojans off-guard. Our ladies won the set 20-15.
In the third set, sophomores Jenna Ragan and Summer LaButte made game-winning contributions. They were where they needed to be to get to the ball. In this set, Skye LaButte served with precision and amazed the crowd with her powerful spikes. Senior Sophia Shea saved her Lady Rays from giving points to Lely by getting down and digging. She pulled out 22 digs in this set and kept the game going. MIA won the third set 25-20.
In the fourth and final set, the tension was building in the crowd, as well as on the court. While fans shouted their support, points were won in a back-and-forth battle between the teams. Our determined ladies put it all out there and it paid off with a victorious fourth set win of 25-23.
After the match senior Camryn Rose excitedly proclaimed, “My favorite part of the game was at the very end when we won and the whole student section came and surrounded us. I have never seen so much school spirit and that made it so memorable since we got to share this win with everyone.” She also expressed how the intensity of the game initially made the team nervous. “The game was very intense,” Camryn commented. “At the beginning, there were some nerves, but after the first set we all settled down and just played as a team.”
