The top 5 sunset spots on Marco Island

Lexi Smith, Arts Editor

Marco Island offers beautiful sunsets almost every night. Even though there are many areas where you can get good sunset photos, here are the top 5 best places to take sunset photos on Marco Island. If you do go out to take photos of the sunsets, make sure to bring some bug repellent since most of the bugs come out at that time.

#1 Tigertail Beach:

Tigertail Beach is well known for its wildlife, bird sanctuary, and shelling, but the sunsets are not one to be missed. At Tigertail, you can either watch the sunset from the beach, the watchtower or from the salt pond. If you are on the beach watching the sunset, you can watch the sunset go all the way down. From the watchtower, you can see most of the sunset, but the mangroves block out the end of it. At the salt pond, you can see a little bit of the sunset. Since the mangroves cover most of the horizon you can only really see the change of color in the sky.

#2 Crescent Beach:

Crescent Beach is the entire beach from Tigertail all the way down to South Beach. If you are anywhere on Crescent Beach you can see the amazing sunset. If you are closer to the water, the sunset photos look better since you will get the reflection of the sun in the water.

#3 The rocks by South Beach

Another area on the beach to watch the sunset is by/on the rocks at South Beach. The rocks at South Beach provide a “walking” area to watch the sunset from. You can climb up the rocks and sit on them as you watch the sunset. This area is perfect for photos because you can get a person or subject on the rocks next to the water without getting wet.

#4 The Jolly Bridge

The Jolly Bridge (the main bridge going off the island) is another great spot to take sunset photos. The Jolly Bridge has a pathway where you can walk up to the top of the bridge and sit down on one of the benches. On top of the bridge is the best place to take photos of the whole island. When you are on top of the bridge, you can see almost the whole island. Because you can see so much of the island from on top of it, it makes it a really good spot to take sunset photos from.

#5 The Goodland Bridge

The Goodland Bridge is the second way off the island but not alot of people know that it is a good spot to take sunset photos from. At the Goodland Bridge, you can either walk up the shoulder or you can park on the side of the island. If you park off to the side of the bridge off of the island you can go under the bridge and also go to either side of the bridge to take photos. By the side of the bridge is a good spot to get photos since you can get the reflection of the water and nature in the photo. If you park off to the side of the bridge off of the island, you can also walk up the bridge to the top. At the top of the bridge you can see over the mangroves and parts of Goodland. On top of the bridge is a good area to get sunset photos since you can get some nature and mangroves in the photos.
