The Marco Island Academy Cheerleaders are the football and basketball teams’ loudest fans who show up at every game, ready to cheer them on at the sidelines.
In the summer, to get ready for football season, the cheer coaches fly in a guest coach to help the girls train and learn/strengthen their skills.
What the usual schedule looks like during the fall season is that practices are always on Mondays and Wednesdays, then a game on Friday. As it gets colder and the cheerleaders craft a new team that’s excited to be the biggest supporters of both of the basketball teams during the winter, they start off the season with practices on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in order to get ready for big Christmas events like the Christmas tree lighting and the parade, where they do a synchronized dance. As the season progresses and more games fill the week, practices will diminish based on the schedule.
During practice, you can often see the girls learning new dances or practicing their stunts or jumps. The biggest thing is that there is a place for everyone. Whether it’s during stunting and you fit into the role of a base, flyer, or backspot, or just overall in the team. Everyone is always included, having fun, and working hard.
