The term “Brainrot” has been floating around the media lately and with these recent trends, it’s clear why.
Watching half of the recent videos on TikTok makes me feel like my brain is about to disintegrate and melt away. I honestly can’t even hate on them that much though because I’m letting myself get to this despairing level of boredom where I willingly watch these videos and doom-scroll for hours upon hours.
I just have a question: How do people actually find a way to like this stuff? Anybody who has the willpower to spend even a whopping 30 minutes away from their phone to clearly think about it can agree that these are the worst and most annoying trends to ever surface on the internet.
1. Dubai Chocolate
It’s like the green, pistachio mix inside these chocolate bars has turned people into Dubai-zombies. Every corner I turn in a store, it’s there in some way, shape, or form. I’m not even safe entering ice-cream shops anymore because when I look on the other side of the glass, I see the familiar green and brown mix.

It would be justifiable if it was actually good but I’d rather have a regular hershey’s bar that I could get giant-sized for $1.99. Alright fine, I succumbed to this stupid trend but I’m warning you now, if you haven’t tried it, don’t. It’s like biting into little bits of hay, covered in an over-sweet, sticky pistachio paste that just tastes like pure sugar. Might as well go into a home depot and get a handful of sawdust and a handful of sugar and shove it into your mouth. If I blindfolded an influencer and gave them a bite of Dubai Chocolate and a bite of horse food, I guarantee they couldn’t tell the difference. Unfortunately for the victims of consumerism, it’s time to say du-bye to this chocolate.
2. The Labubu

No words can explain how much I HATE these stupid little things. I’m actually curious how people let these things stare into their souls. I actually feel like if I looked at one for too long in the eyes, I’d start turning into stone, or worse, a Labubu. Not to mention some people clip them onto their pants or their purses. I couldn’t find a single reason why I’d want to be seen or be associated with this ugly, evil doll. Just their teeth can tell you everything you need to know. Those sharp, stubby teeth that spread into an eerie grin appear in my nightmares and in my reality. I can’t open any type of social media without that face staring back at me. If I had three skips for any trending objects on TikTok, I’d use all three to never see these things again
3. Modern Mukbangs

Unlike ASMR in 2019, these videos aren’t relaxing, entertaining, or a lullaby to send me to sleep, it’s just downright disgusting. This gluttony spreading around the media is just so unnecessary and honestly gross. I know for a fact that dumping a pound of queso and another pound of sour cream onto a Chipotle burrito cannot be good. The squelch noise when they bite into it is anything other than satisfying. If you took away the visual, it sounds like someone biting into slime and smacking on the goopy stuff. It’s not like it’s only one burrito, it’s 4 giant ones, bigger than their heads. It’s not just with burritos, they’ll pour out a container of cheese onto a bucket of spaghetti and then somehow manage to get it all over their face and the table. Although I will admit, the seafood boil mukbangs are satisfying, it’s getting out of hand. Now we’re boiling anything we can find with that same dang seasoning and calling it the best thing ever. This trend needs to be evaporated or simmer down into what it used to be because these new mukbangs make my appetite boil away.
4. The Cinnamon Challenge
We all have likely heard about this challenge back in 2012. People would willingly take a spoonful of ground cinnamon and put it in their mouths, resulting in a brown dust cloud that looks like a fresh dive on a baseball field. I really had hope for this world before I saw people starting up this challenge again. I mean come on, I thought we had all learned the first time that this is NOT going to go well. Personally, I don’t get the appeal in these videos because it’s just so repetitive. I mean it was funny the first time but the 12th video of someone coughing is just annoying and it gets so old. Leave the past in the past.

Also how do people have free time for this? I think the next challenge should be to pick up a job application.
5. Nothing Beats a Jet2 Holiday

Every other video that I come across on TikTok, this annoying audio is always there. It’s not even connected to a trend to anything, people just use the sound to use it, no matter what the video is. It could be a video of someone falling down the stairs and in the background you hear this little voice saying “Nothing beats a jet2 holiday.” Actually, nothing beats going outside and breathing some fresh air. It’s been a while since some doomscrollers have touched a doorknob to the outside world. I would say that we should officially retire this sound but the sad truth is that another one equally as annoying will emerge and become the next thing.
