This past Valentine’s Day week at MIA was a remarkable one for our entire student body, staff, and faculty. With the strength of Miss Scott from the sidelines, MIA’s very own Interact club helped create, alongside Student Government and Quill and Scroll, a week full of love, joy, and community spirit. With SGA providing a lovely spirit week and Quill and Scroll spreading joy with their “Love is in The Hair” St. Baldrick’s event, Interact was able to pull off a series of events that helped add more joy to this week of love.
Starting the week of February 3rd, Interact members started selling their yearly Boo-Boo and Biffle grahams in lunches and mentorings. Students had the opportunity to buy either a heart balloon or send a sweet candy surprise to a friend or special someone. For just two dollars, the thoughtful gesture brightened many students’ days when they arrived at school on February 14th. It was a lovely surprise that kick-started their Friday of fun.
For anyone who needed a little extra pick-me-up, Interact’s Coffee Bar and Bake Sale provided a cozy way to start your Friday. Students were able to customize their drinks, with a variety of creamers and coffee, and they were able to get a plate of freshly flipped pancakes for only two dollars.
President Lily Tessarzik shared a comment on her fairly stressful week with the club: “Coming from someone who hates Valentine’s Day, it made me so happy to pick up the 60 heart balloons and then even happier to see everyone walk around school with them tied to their backpacks. We love to serve our community, and this week’s events were a great way to celebrate and bring our student body together.”
As Interact continues to live by its motto, “Service Before Self,” this past week was a beautiful reminder that even the smallest gestures can create lasting memories and strengthen the bonds within our MIA family.
