Social Media As It Should Be

You haven’t heard the buzz? Bluesky is a new social media app that has hit the app store. Their slogan is “Social media as it should be.” This application offers features similar to those of Twitter, but it has pledged not to allow false information to get around. Although the app looks similar to what Twitter used to look like, it has very different plans than those of “X.”

Bluesky looks a lot like Twitter because the former owner of Twitter Jack Dorsey is the founder. He mentioned that his goal was to make this new app a decentralized version of Twitter where no single person owns it.

Bluesky is not a new app, it has been around since 2019, but since the recent change of making this app public rather than invitation only it has gained more popularity. In doing this, the developers had almost 5 years to work out all of the app’s glitches and kinks to make it reliable when it went public.

With that being said, the app crashed in November when too many new users joined the app at once. The rapid increase of Bluesky users spiked after the presidency of Donald Trump was announced on November 6th, this is no coincidence. The owner of the platform that used to be Twitter, now called X, Elon Musk, was a huge supporter of Trump’s campaign. After his heavy involvement in the Trump Administration, many left the app as a way of protest. Others claim that the X is “a toxic media platform that allows misinformation. The misinformation tends to be less popular on Bluesky. This is emphasized in the aforementioned slogan.
