One of the most tragic issues around the world is child cancer, and St. Baldrick is tackling that exact problem one donation at a time. St. Baldrick’s is a volunteer and donor-fueled foundation that aims to fund the most promising child cancer research. Doing this by working closely with leading pediatric oncologists, St. Baldrick’s provides hospitals with enough funding to open high-impact clinical trials. As well as funding researchers to work together, training the next generation of researchers, and funding supportive care research. By doing all of this, St. Baldricks is finding the most effective ways to try and finally put an end to child cancer.
With this being a donor-run organization, St. Baldrick’s can’t do this without you, and lucky for you there are numerous ways to donate. With their “Do What You Want” fundraisers, you can do anything from a bake sale to a 5k. You can get as creative as you want and do it whenever and wherever. Another way to fundraise and donate is, what I think, the most fun of them all; A head shaving event. This event is pretty self-explanatory, pledge an amount of money and shave your head! Although Saint Baldricks doesn’t take the donated hair that you shave, they list numerous different charities to which you can donate your hair, along with their regulations.
Another way to make a lasting impact is by sharing your story and celebrating life. A way you can do this is by signing up your child as an honored kid, telling their story, and inspiring others. Doing this can also create the opportunity for your child to be the face of a fundraiser. More ways to do this is to start a hero fund which gives a family a way to fundraise for a family member or someone they love who is struggling with cancer. According to their website, this is an efficient alternative to starting your foundation. Another way to honor a loved one, as well as benefit child cancer, is creating a memorial. This dedicates a page to a child who passed and honors their legacy.
Lastly, there are two more ways to contribute to their cause. You can add your voice and make childhood cancer research a national prime concern. You can do this by joining St. Baldrick’s advocacy network and trying to get Congress to hear Saint Baldrick’s concerns. And, finally, the next way is involving your business or organization. No matter how big or small your business/organization is you can participate. Not only will this help you and your brand image, you also can get involved and do your part in aiding child cancer research.
Childhood cancer is a serious subject that requires serious attention and priority and here at MIA we are going to be helping Saint Baldrick’s with that. On February 14th we will be hosting a head shaving event here in our gym to spread awareness. We will keep updates on the Wave and our social media, but as for now, you can do your part and donate to our special cause in the link below.
