Last week we kicked off the MIA soccer season with two wins, one from the Boys Varsity Soccer team, and the other from the Girls Varsity Soccer team. Here is a recap of our two wins from the week.
Boys Varsity Soccer 11/07/2024
This past Thursday, November 7th, our boys Varsity Soccer team defeated the Lions of Florida Baptist Academy on our home turf. In their opening game, our Rays were able to destroy one of the best teams in Collier County with a score of 4-0.
Our starters comprised numerous freshmen, who all came together under Coach Higuera’s leadership to drag out a win. Scorers for this game are freshman Benjamin Savarino, freshman Weslyn Vilatoro, freshman Raul Antonio-Carillo, and senior Enrique Ramirez. New goalie, freshman Evan Shean took the crowd by storm, protecting his goal with his life, and stopping numerous fastballs from getting into the net.
“I am proud of the teamwork we displayed in Thursday’s game. Señor was super hard on us this week, but all the extra practice time we put in gave us the results we wanted” said Captain Enrique Ramirez.

With a new starting lineup, our girls were struggling with senior leadership in their first game, but in this match, it was evident that the girls had worked hard on it. Our scorers of this game were senior Mary Montgomery on a free kick, junior Gracie Johnson, and sophomore Paisley Papa.
“After a hard loss that had all of us down, our leadership among the girls blossomed into a very good victory. This one felt promising, and a felt like a re-do of our first game” said Captain Mary Montgomery.
