This week at Marco Island Academy, students are dressing up to show their homecoming spirit. The themes this week were very enjoyable, and it seemed like the student body enjoyed dressing up.
On Monday, October 21st, all of the freshmen through juniors dressed in their pajamas to stay comfy for the PSAT. This attire allowed the students to enjoy a day that isn’t the most fun, but since they dressed in pajamas, a little bit of joy was added to their day. While the freshmen- juniors dressed comfy and took the PSAT, all of the seniors enjoyed a nice day at the beach. The seniors played games, soaked up the sun, and socialized with their classmates.
On Tuesday, October 22nd, follows the homecoming theme the “Night of Nights”. This theme entails a colorful glow party. The gear each student wore was bright and colorful which correlated the Miami vibe of homecoming. Each student lit up the halls in their brightest clothing. The whole school was glowing.
On Wednesday, October 23rd, the theme was iconic duo/group day. Each student dressed from their favorite movie characters to their favorite foods. Some dressed as characters from Diary of a Wimpy Kid while others dressed as fishermen and fish. Two students at MIA, Layla Platt and Gavin Wall, dressed as the iconic duo “hunter and deer”. Layla Platt stated, “This spirit day was so fun and I loved my outfit, dressing as a deer was super cute in my opinion.” The opportunities to be creative and dress up were endless. This day allowed each student to express their favorite duo or match with their best friends. Iconic duo/group day was an exciting way for each student to be involved in the school’s community.
On Thursday, October 24th, the theme was Jersey V.S. Jersey Shore day. Each student had the ability to either dress in their favorite sports team jersey or like the iconic 2009 reality TV show “Jersey Shore”. Some students dressed in the cheetah print pattern that was popular in the TV show while others repped teams such as The Cincinnati Bengals and The Miami Dolphins. The combinations were endless and tons of students had the chance to participate. A student at MIA, Madison Stolinas, stated “Having the ability to dress like ‘Snookie’ from Jersey Shore was awesome, I had a ton of fun on this spirit day.”
On Friday, October 25th, each class dressed as their assigned class colors. Each color was a fragment of the school’s pallet of colors. The freshmen dressed in gray, the sophomores dressed in white, juniors dressed in navy, and seniors dressed in pink and were also encouraged to wear their customized senior jeans. Teachers dressed themselves in pink or their Marco Island Academy staff shirts. Each class color painted the school and demonstrated our unity and spirit at our pep rally.
Spirit week 2024 was one for the books! From the comfiest attire to the craziest and brightest colors, the students expressed their favorite things and demonstrated the school spirit. This Saturday, October 26th, each student will be throwing on their fancy attire, and attending the MIA Homecoming dance. Each student is guaranteed to have a ‘night’ to remember.
