Hurricane Milton hit Florida Wednesday October 9th. It mostly affected central and southwest Florida because of storm surge. Hurricane Helene didn’t affect Southwest Florida as much as Milton did. During hurricane Helene, Marco Island Academy was out of school for 2-3 days. Now Milton on the other hand, MIA was out of school for a full week from Monday October 7th to the 11th.
Marco Island Academy had many plans for the week of the hurricane and after. Homecoming was the weekend of October 12th, 2 days after Hurricane Milton made landfall. Homecoming had to be canceled due to the storm and rescheduled to October 26th. During the week of the Hurricane, MIA had spirit week that also had to be rescheduled to the week of homecoming. The hurricane affected tests and school work. Midterms was supposed to be Thursday October 17th, and was now changed to October 18th, the Friday school was supposed to be off. Having a full week off of school affected many students’ study time and preparation for Midterms.
