Viewers have fiercely attacked “Dancing With the Stars” for including criminal Anna Delvey in its latest season as the con artist made her debut performances with a bedazzled ankle monitor. Anna, whose true name is Anna Sorokin, conned several banks, hotels, and people out of $275,000 for years while adopting the persona of a rich heiress. Social media was immediately overflowing with criticism of her participation on the show, with many criticizing the network for letting the former felon compete on the show. One viewer tweeted, “ I’m sorry but why are we rewarding Anna Sorokin’s bad behavior by giving this clearly mentally disturbed woman exactly what she wants… a spotlight and a platform.”
Known by the hosts as a “fashionista and entrepreneur,” Delvey stated in her introduction that she is aware that some might associate her with her criminal past but she hopes to bring out “a different side” of herself on Dancing With the Stars. Delvey added “My past history shows I’m pretty determined and it’s a good quality to channel into something positive.”
After a quickstep with her dance partner Ezra Sosa on Tuesday night, Delvey and Sosa only managed to score 17 out of 30 points in this round which ultimately eliminated them from the dance competition. Her brief run was not expected, as the show was gaining plenty of attention from her controversies. As she was leaving, host Julianne Hough asked what she obtained from her time on the show, Delvey responded with a curt: “Nothing.”
