Last Friday, our Manta Rays Varsity Football team took home a giant win against the Seahawks of Jordan Christian Prep! With a score of 13-8, our Manta Rays left a dominant stance on how they wanted the remainder of their season to go.
Our new starting quarterback Alan Thomas, Junior, had a down game going 5/12 for 61 yards and one interception. Our rushing game was a highlight for our Manta Rays. Thomas ran for 33 yards, junior Marcus Docteur ran for 28 yards, and junior Axton Middlebrook ran for 23 yards. Our standout on the ground was junior Noah Smith who ran for 23 yards and scored our two touchdowns of the game.
On the receiving end, junior Ryan Winterick stood out with 55 yards. Winterick’s catch of the day was a 22-yard airball. The catch was huge, and 1 on 1 over his defender. Along with Winterick’s success in the air, he also recovered a fumble from the Seahawks, which led to our first score of the day.
Our defense had 32 tackles on the night, 14 of them being from junior Logan Drag. That is an all-time high for the Rays in 3 years. Our Rays also had 4.0 sacks on the night from three outstanding Rays, senior Cade Scarnovack, sophomore Keven Martinez, and junior Noah Smith.
Our defense held the Seahawks all game until the final minute, where the Seahawks scored 8 points and attempted an onside kick. The crowd and coaches held their breath, while our Rays held that line and stopped them from defeat.
MIA is very proud of the boys this past week, and can’t wait to see where their 1-0 lead will take them. Our next matchup is against the Bobcats of Boca Raton Christian this Friday, September 6th. Saddle up, and wear your best country outfit!
Go Rays!
