On August 11, 2024, Miley Cyrus became the youngest ever honoree to be presented with the title of Disney Legend. The artist and actress has become imprinted in pop cultural history in the over two decades since she landed the role on Disney Channel.
In addition to the award statuette itself, each honoree is represented by a bronze commemorative plaque that either shows the statuette logos or, in the case of a posthumous induction, the recipient’s handprints and signature. The plaques are shown at Burbank, California’s Legends Plaza, at Walt Disney Studios.
American singer, songwriter, and actor Miley Ray Cyrus is considered a pop icon. She has gained recognition for her developing style and talent, earning the title of “Teen Queen” of the 2000s.
At the age of eight, Miley began her acting career. At thirteen, she went on the Disney Channel show Hannah Montana for an audition. With an average of 4.4 million viewers per episode, the series debuted in March 2006 to the greatest audience for a Disney Channel original series. With 10.7 million people overall, a 2007 episode of the show continues to hold the record for the highest-rated basic cable series aired.
In the past, Miley has had her fair share of critics attacking her. From concerned mothers to radio show hosts to high school girls mocking her self-respect and common decency, despite all of this, she continued on to become an award-winning actress with great achievements and stayed demonstrating to women and girls of all ages that there is a choice in their behavior, way they dress, and attitude.
Miley thought back on her 2005 audition experience throughout her speech and reflected on the process it took to get her to be in the position where she is now.
She goes on to continue reminiscing about her debut as the blonde pop star sensation. The concert was presented in the Glendale Galleria mall at no charge.
In addition, Cyrus began her performance that day with “This Is the Life,” even though “Best of Both Worlds” would go on to become the song that defines Hannah Montana forever. During this, Miley exclaims to the audience how she was so proud to be Hannah Montana and what opportunities it brought for her.
