In the past, video games being turned into movies and TV shows had never really worked out. However, video games turning into movies or shows have become more common as of lately. The new Fallout T.V. show is no exception.
What makes these adaptations different from their poorer quality counterparts is that they’re set in the world of video games but they tell their own story. The writers don’t have to stick to an already existing story but rather use the elements from the source materials and make their own stories. This is clearly shown with the main trio, with them being completely new characters but they’re from places that the fan base already knows like Maximus being a part of the Brotherhood of Steel or Lucy being a vault dweller.
The series follows three different protagonists; The Ghoul, Maximus Decimus, and Lucy MacLean. They all come from different places and have different lives but their paths all intervene when they’re looking for Siggi Wilzig, a mysterious scientist who is wanted. Lucy wants to find her father who has been kidnapped by raiders and the scientist is her way of getting him, Maximus is assigned to find him as a scout for the Brotherhood of Steel, and the ghoul is a bounty hunter and wants to claim the reward. This is what leads the show and sets it going.
The main trio is a resemblance of the good, the bad, and the ugly. Lucy resembles the good, with how she is a vault dweller and being more spirit compared to the harshness of the surface world. Ella Purnell, the actor for Lucy, gives a great performance of being somewhat happy and having more of a can-do attitude than her journey as the show progresses and see the changes in her, with the roughness of the world and her becoming tougher and adapting to this new world. And Aaron Moten, the actor who plays Maximus, with his character resembles the bad. Of how the choices Maximus tends to make selfish choices as he is always the one who gets bullied at the brotherhood, but as the show progresses, we can see that he wants to help people and be better, with helping folks and especially with Lucy. And lastly, the ugly. It fits with the Ghoul perfectly, not just physically but also on the inside. With the roughness and a depiction of the surface world and how they only care about themselves, Walton Goggins, the actor of the Ghoul, shows the tough character but also why the Ghoul is really after the scientist.
The script that the show develops is very well written. The show is based on the Fallout game series but you don’t need to play or understand the games to get the show. The show’s comedic writing is mature and violent humor. It has the same atmosphere as the “Deadpool” movies. The writers pretty much had full control and had no filter when it came to the jokes but they made it in a particular way where they didn’t overuse humor aspects while also understanding the perfect time when they should use it and when it works.
Fallout season one is available on Amazon Prime and it has already been green-lighted for season two. Season one is a major setup for season two on how the three protagonists will do next, with Lucy and the Ghoul joining forces to help each other out and Maximus and the Brotherhood of Steel, Season two will go more in-depth into these characters. This show is a must watch.
