Tough loss for The Rays against ECS
The Evangelical game was one of the hardest games for the MIA Lady Rays soccer team so far this season. With a strong starting lineup from ECS and the Rays down three starters, Marco’s team had its work cut out for it. While the defense held strong with a 0-1 score at halftime, the ECS offense came on strong with a shower of shots in the second half. In the second half, Savannah Heilmer and Hailey Cartwright fell to injury with Cartwright unable to return. The end result was a 0-6 victory for ECS.
The Rays had ten players on the field in the second half. Junior Morgan Jones stated, “It was a rough game, but we all tried our hardest and I am proud of all of us for that.” ECS itself is tough competition, based on the fact that they won the district last year and did not have any graduating seniors on the team.
Coach Jim Watt stated, “We learned a lot and really grew as a team. I think our girls proved to themselves that they can play with anyone and we will be up for the challenge when ECS comes to Marco Island for the rematch.”
