Southwest Florida Snow
As Christmas nears, and the days get shorter, people start to wonder, “What do we do now that summers over and winters here?” Most kids would think about making snowmen, snow angels, skiing, or snowboarding. Though in somewhere like Southwest Florida, a place famous for its year-round sunshine, these activities aren’t really possible.
1. South Beach, Marco Island
Even during the “dead of winter”, Florida can still be pretty warm during the days. Now that rainy season is over, Marco Island truly has bluebird skies, with temperatures in the mid-70s. The water may be a bit cold at times, but if the snowbirds can handle it, so can the residents. If relaxing at the beach isn’t always your thing, then there are still plenty of things to do. From renting jet skis and flying over waves, to flying over the clouds with parasailing, both thrill seekers and chill seekers alike can enjoy the famous beach of Marco Island!
2. Mackle Park
Marco Island is full of wondrous parks, but the most popular is Mackle Park. Mackle has a brand new indoor facility, a playground for the little ones, a mini waterpark, and a range of sporting domains. The sporting domains include: a basketball court, beach volleyball, and a soccer field. Mackle isn’t just a park for people though, it’s also a park for dogs! In fact, the dogs have their own part entirely within Mackle itself, one for little dogs and a separate one for big dogs. It truly is fun for the whole family!
3. The Ten Thousand Islands
A common nickname for Marco and its neighboring islands is, “The Ten Thousand Islands”. On weekends, hundreds of boats can be seen voyaging out into the surrounding area to either camp out on a common island such as Key Weyden, or venture off to find a new unique and hidden spot for just the family. From dolphin watching to tubing behind a boat, going out to experience the endless amount of beauty these islands hold is truly breathtaking. Whether you’re with friends and family, your significant other, or all by yourself, you will never tire of the Ten Thousand Islands.
