As the school year begins, everyone is readjusting to their new schedules and seeing all of their old friends again from the years before. Sometimes the new students get lost in the shuffle. The main question everyone is wondering is if the new freshmen are cracking under pressure, or staying strong, and it is clear that the class of 2027 is adjusting very well. Many of the freshmen exuded mainly positive experiences to share about the first week of school.
The freshmen have a deep interest in joining sports and clubs to be more connected with the school and other students. Freshman Jacob Lebowitz shared his position for the upcoming season while saying, “I play football, and this is my first year on the team.” Lebowitz also shared that he plans on joining other sports during other seasons later in the year, like track and basketball.
When freshman Maddy Hamerlin was asked about her adjustment from the local middle school, Marco Island Charter, to the new environment of Marco Island Academy, she only had good things to say. “It’s a lot better… it makes me want to come to school”. She explains that the whole environment of the school encourages her to come every morning. She also revealed her interest in school sports by mentioning her spot on the cheer team as a flier.
Part of the reason the class of 2027 is adjusting so well could be the nice and new school, the teachers that are willing to work through problems the students are facing, and the overall vibe of the whole school. It is clear that most of the new freshmen are adjusting very well. Both of the aforementioned students Jacob Lebowitz and Maddy Hamerlin are excited and looking forward to the upcoming school year. They are finding their way into the new school, despite having to juggle new schedules, making friends, and a brand new school.
