Where Are They Now?

Michael Lacava graduated from MIA in 2020, the same year the pandemic struck. For Michael, this allowed him to obtain a different perspective and, in return, gain several opportunities. Michael explains, “The most surprising change was the amount of opportunity that the pandemic gave me. There’s always something good you can take away from such a scary time.”

Michael took many classes at MIA, many of which helped guide him closer to his current interests. One of those interests is challenging himself. Michael says, “AICE Global Perspectives was a great class. The A-level class/paper is still the hardest assignment I’ve ever had to complete.” Michael also shared his enjoyment of AICE English Language and Literature, saying analyzing poems was fun for him.

However, time has passed, and Michael has come across many new changes. Michael is now living on his own and places taking care of himself a top priority. He states, “Living on my own and providing for myself is just one of the things growing up entails.” Michael also notes that all of this change was quote, “Not surprising for me, just more conscious of putting my self-care at the top of my list.”

Another change Michael has begun to experience is befriending a lot of people who are ‘much older’ than him. Michael says, “I have a lot of new friends a lot older than I am. Honestly, my 67-year-old friend Peter can be the highlight of my day.”

There have been many components that have guided Michael to where he is today. Some of these things include weightlifting, working, as well as school. Although what guided him the most was ‘happiness.’ Michael says, “Happiness is the main factor that has guided me. I haven’t searched for money or success. Just trying to be happy.” Michael’s happiness comes from the people he surrounds himself with. “Honestly easy to do that with a beautiful girlfriend and a great family.”

With all this said, Michael has worked hard to get where he is today, and sharing some guidance might help you do the same. Michael states, “Be social. Meet new people. Make new friends. Find new connections. You don’t know the amount of opportunities that can come to you by just knowing the right person.” Michael understands that “Not all advice is to be understood immediately. Just take it and run.”
