Senior Spotlight: Taylor Drott
Taylor Drott is a senior at Marco Island Academy, and is one of the captains, as well as the goalkeeper of the soccer team. She has been playing soccer at MIA since her sophomore year but has been playing since she was in 1st grade, playing recreation as a striker until 5th grade. In middle school, she played for both the MICMS team and a Marco Island travel team as goalie. Taylor continued playing as goalie in her club team until her junior year and has finished her high school soccer career playing as goalie at MIA. She started playing soccer as a way to bond with her father, since he was the coach of her recreational team.
This being the first year of MIA having their own field, Taylor was very excited to be able to play on it. She loved seeing more fans in the stands and feeling the energy of playing at her own school, instead of away at Winterberry Park like previous years. Taylor’s favorite part of being a captain was being able to lead the team and keep them positive through games, especially through the PCAC finals. Her favorite part of her senior season was scoring her first goal in her high school career, and playing alongside both her best friend, Ava, and her younger sister, Savannah.
