A new enthusiastic, organized, patient teacher has joined the MIA team. Mrs. Dickson has been teaching for twenty-five years.

She grew up in Upstate New York in the Hudson Valley, where she attended SUNY Albany. She then moved to Washington State as her husband was stationed there in the Navy. Mrs. Dickson then earned her Master’s in Education from City University in Seattle. Two years ago, they finally moved back to the east side of the country, as they always wanted to.

Mrs. Dickson’s family is her world. She and her husband met in high school when they were fifteen and now share three boys, ages 20, 17, and 14. Her oldest son is a senior at UCF, where he does Air Force ROTC and football. Her two youngest sons both attend MIA and enjoy sports as well.

Mrs. Dickson heard about MIA while researching schools for her kids to attend. After reading information about the school online, she decided to volunteer as a parent and immediately knew it would be a good fit.

Mrs. Dickson says she is still adjusting to ‘some differences,’ but MIA has been great for her so far. She believes that ‘the kids are very respectful’ and enjoys the semester blocking schedule, though she feels it’s challenging to cover so much material quickly.

Mrs. Dickson describes her teaching style as ‘a hybrid of a facilitator role, lecture/demonstration, and discovery.’

Outside of the classroom, Mrs. Dickson enjoys spending time with her family. They play pickleball and enjoy fishing, beaching, tubing, and wakeboarding on their boat. Mrs. Dickson and her family’s favorite weekend trips center around going to Orlando to watch a UCF football game.

We are eager to welcome Mrs. Dickson as a new school staff member at MIA and are positive that she is an excellent addition to our family. Go Rays!
