The Road to Marlins Stadium – Part Three
Week 1 of the regular season started for the Manta Rays as they faced First Baptist Academy at home. The game ended in a narrow 6-4 victory for the Rays, backed by a Freshman Aidan Herzog who kept the Lions of FBA to 2 runs through 5, Senior Jack Berry led the way on the offensive side with 3 hits and 3 rbi’s. Jack and his twin brother Chase Berry brought two home runs back to back, giving the Rays momentum to win the game.
The next day, the Rays headed to Community School of Naples to take on the Seahawks. It got out of control quickly for the Rays, and they weren’t holding their own on the field. Junior Ryan Sweeney started the game for the Rays but came out quickly after a rough outing. The Rays lone run came when Senior Chase Berry drove in Ryan Sweeney with a double.
The Rays looked to bounce back against Everglades City on Thursday night, and they did just that in a 19-1 slaughter rule victory over the Gators. Everything went right for the Rays, especially the pitching which only let in 2 hits through the game. As a team, they rallied up 8 hits and were able to put all 19 runs up in just 2 innings.
Friday came and it was time for the Rays to take on the Kings of Southwest Florida Christian Academy, the Rays tried to continue their dominance and replicate the night before but it didn’t happen the way they had hoped. Held to just 3 hits, the Rays struggled to put any runs off behind a solid pitching and defensive performance.
Finishing the week 2-2, the Rays look towards Wednesday for the coveted game at LoanDepot Park against Boca Raton Christian School.
