Kira Swanson

Senior Spotlight: Kira Swanson

Kira has been a part of Thespians all four years of high school. Her biggest takeaway from being in Thespians and acting at MIA has been the friendships that she has made. Kira’s most memorable experience performing was when she forgot her solo for the opening number of Into the Woods her sophomore year. She has also been casted as Ariel in The Little Mermaid for the upcoming show in April, which she says will be a memorable experience for her.

Outside of school, Kira is typically working at Marco Movies or babysitting. In her free time she enjoys reading books or going to Starbucks with her sister Kacie. Kira first started acting with the Island Theatre Company when she was ten years old. She did her first production in the ensemble of Island Theater Company and received her first lead role as Rafiki in the Lion King Jr. Kira enjoys volunteering as Elsa at birthday parties, Night To Shine and many other events.

Kira says that being in Thespians has taught her a lot about herself. Kira also says that “Working with other kids my age that love theatre just as much as I do, has allowed me to branch out of my comfort zone when it comes to acting and singing.” Kira says that performing with Thespians taught her what she is capable of as an actress, performer, and singer. Kira started doing theater a little over seven years ago and joined Thespians her freshman year. Her favorite thing about being a part of Thespians is working with other performers and growing her experience as an actress.

Throughout Kira’s last four years of high school she has most enjoyed her performing arts classes such as Theatre, Film, and Musical Theatre. Kira says that performing arts classes gave her a look into a whole new side of theatre, and the history behind it, the major dramatic question of the playwright, and she even learned how to sew.

After high school Kira wants to take general credits at FSW for a year and then transfer to a bigger college in Florida. Kira is very passionate about studying special education and elementary education. Her goals after graduation are to attend FSW to get her general credits while working at Marco Movies to save up money to attend a bigger school.
