Top 15 Best Disney Movies

Rachel Weiner, Contributing Writer

Disney is a classic movie company that sticks with us from childhood to adulthood. Whether it’s the life lessons, songs, or friendships, Disney is unbeatable when it comes to movies. I have seen almost every Disney and Pixar movie that has come out, and there were definitely a certain few that stood out to me above the others.

15.) Christopher Robin

In this movie, we see grown-up Christopher Robin visit his old childhood home where Winnie the Pooh and all of his friends get him to remember his childhood and the true meaning of happiness. I am a huge fan of Winnie the Pooh and this movie really captures the meaning of growing up and needing to remember your childhood.

14.) Wreck it Ralph

In this movie, The main character, Ralph, is the “bad guy” of his video game. He goes through the movie trying to do tasks to become a “good guy”, realizing that he has been the whole time and doesn’t need to think he’s the villain, despite his part in the game. I really like the message and how Ralph goes through self-doubt and overcomes it himself.

13.) Alice in Wonderland

In this movie, a young girl, Alice falls down a tree trunk into her longtime dream. I wouldn’t say I like this movie because of the meaning, but I think it’s just a classic and is very visually appealing when coming to the colors and setting in general.

12.) Camp Rock

In this movie, the main character, Mitchie follows her dreams of going to “Camp Rock”, overcoming many challenges involving self doubt, friendships, and growth. I like this movie because it is relatable when it comes to the experiences a teenager can go through with following her dreams.

11.) Moana

In this story, we follow the young girl, Moana faced with the challenges of becoming a leader and the undeniable feeling for exploring and getting off the island she’s grown up on. I really like this movie because it is a very different “princess movie” and we see Moana work for what she wants (without a love interest!)

10.) Frozen

This one we all should know the plot, but we follow Elsa stressing about the worries of becoming queen, overwhelmed by the forces of her powers. Her young sister, Anna tries to help but only makes it worse. I like this movie not only because it has become a classic, finding out that love can be found in many different forms and that the sisters work to become each other’s go person.

9.) Enchanted

In this movie we follow the real life fairytale of Gisselle, falling down a well and entering our world where she comes across many challenges. A big change from being handed everything in her fairytale life contrasts the difficulties she faces in the real world. I like this movie because it takes a twist on what is considered “a normal” Disney movie (and the music is catchy too!)

8.) Beauty and the Beast

A classic story of a young girl wanting to travel the world and being trapped by a big ugly beast, but eventually falls in love with him. This one I remember watching since I could remember. I loved seeing the live action as well that had come out in 2017 and I believed the original is definitely necessary on this list.

7.) Toy Story 3

Following the ongoing story of Woody and his friends, this one hands down is the best in the franchise. I love the new story of Lotso and I really think the lessons in this story make the movie great.

6.) Tangled

This story follows the young Rapunzel meeting Eugine and them working together to accomplish her dream of seeing the lanterns shown every year on her birthday. Not only is the music beautiful, but the visuals as well. Especially the scene of the lanterns and them falling in love. This is such a beautiful movie and although there is a lot that happens, nothing is confusing or left untalked about. This movie deserves all the love it’s given.

5.) Princess and the Frog

In this movie, Tiana is working towards buying her own restaurant while being doubted by everyone around her, after meeting Prince Naveen (who was a frog at the time), he promises that he will buy her restaurant for a kiss. Turning into a frog herself, we follow the journey of becoming human again. I really like this movie and I think it’s simple enough to be a fan favorite and has just stuck with me since I have seen it.

4.) Inside Out

This movie follows the inner emotions of the young girl, Riley and her feelings tackling her everyday life and the big changes that she is going through. I think this movie is unlike any other Pixar movie as we are even seeing her emotions overcome their weaknesses and seeing growth. I have seen this movie probably 100 times, and I could go for 100 more.

3.) Up

This love story wins. I have cried at this movie so many times and it wins the love factor of Disney movies. Following the story of Carl losing his wife Ellie, and choosing to go on adventure, eventually learning that life is about not only the past but the future and moving forward. Also there’s a talking dog in it. Nothing more to say, this movie is incredible.

2.) Monsters Inc.

In this story, Mike and Sully hit a problem once a human child, Boo,  enters their world and they need to get her back into the “human world” before anyone notices. This movie hits a lot of challenges but has such a cute overall meaning. I cry everytime Sully says goodbye to Boo. Rightfully deserves this spot on the list.

1.) Encanto

Hands down, the BEST Disney movie to ever exist. Following the story of The Madrigals who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia in a charmed place called the Encanto. The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift — every child except Mirabel. However, she soon may be the Madrigal’s last hope when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is now in danger. I love every detail about this movie. The plot was perfect, very catchy music and a beautiful lesson learned. I could go on and on about this movie and why it deserves to be in this place. Yes, we most certainly will be talking about Bruno.
