MIA Feminists Join DWCM

Soon after the reintroduction of Girls Learn International to Marco Island Academy and its surrounding community, the determined group of young women belonging to the chapter were honored with an invitation to attend the Democratic Women’s Club of Marco’s meeting for the month of May.

The Democratic Women’s Club of Marco, dedicated to providing a forum for discussion and education of public policy among other objectives, shared an exciting evening with some of the girls representing MIA GLI, introducing and welcoming the club to the crowd of members and guests.

A particularly significant night, the DWCM welcomed Rich Stolten, the Operations Captain for the Marco Island Police Department to conduct an informational assembly regarding Florida’s new permitless carry law signed on April 3rd. Answering the crowd’s questions, the meeting concluded with the club’s president, Deb Henry, providing flyers and urging members to sign a petition guaranteeing the right to clean water for all Florida residents.

GLI, at its core, strives to build a movement of informed advocates for girls’ education, and inspire young women to become the new generation of leaders and activists for change. Planning to continue working closely with the members of the DWCM, the future of MIA GLI certainly looks bright.
